Board Member Resigns With No Answer As To Why

Earlier this month Centinela Valley school board member Maritza Molina resigned from her post citing “personal reasons.”

The other four board members are looking to appoint a new board member to fill her seat as opposed to spending funds on a costly special election.

She had been previously asked to resign following her support for the controversial salary of former superintendent Jose Fernandez.

Two years ago it was discovered that Fernandez had been raking in more than $750,000 annually.

Board President Hugo Rojas is hoping the district will reach out to the community for a suitable member “who is from the community, knows our schools, has a background in giving back to the community … perhaps an alumni or parent.”

An appointment will have to be made within 60 days.
