Diamond Bar Parents Want To Save District Choice Program

The state Legislature will soon decide whether to extend the District of Choice program.This 22 year -old law gives students the ability to choose their own school district.

According to ABC 7, the bill is currently stalled in the state Legislature. Advocates that want to end the extension of this bill argue that it is harmful to schools that are disadvantaged. If an extension is not passed the bill will end next school year.

Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez said that District of Choice programs allows for an unequal system in the public schools, leaving disadvantaged schools and students behind.

Concerned parents and students in Diamond Bar gathered on Saturday to show their discontent.
