Stockton Unified Police Chief Gets New Job In Sacramento

Stockton Unified Police Chief, Byron Gustafson has resigned to take on a new role in Sacramento as Chief Sergeant-at-Arms for the State Assembly.

Record Net reports that December 16 will be Gustafson’s last day with the Stockton Unified police department as he is expected to be sworn in by the CA State Assembly on January 4.

Gustafson expressed his gratitude for serving Stockton Unified and how privileged he was to work for a dedicated group at SUSD PD.

Gustafson was hired by Stockton Unified in 2014, a time where the department was facing leadership instability.

Superintendent Eliseo Davalos commented that Gustafson’s leadership led to community involvement and an increase in school security. The Police department created the Stockton Public Safety Academy, a student mentoring program for students interested in law enforcement and safety careers.

Davalos adds that they wish Gustafson that best and that this is an important opportunity in his career.

The school board has assigned Captain Anne Brewer as Interim Chief.
