Feds Raid L.A. Charter Organization

Federal officials raided a Los Angeles charter organization confiscating laptops and data amid an ongoing investigation about the charter’s finances.

Charter organization Celerity Educational Group has been facing allegations of fraud and fiscal management by the L.A. Unified inspector general, and the U.S. attorney’s office in L.A., beginning back in 2015 with a request to open two additional schools.

The Department of Homeland Security, the FBI and the inspector general for the U.S. Department of Education are all involved in the investigation. However, no one is allowed to discuss it.

L.A. Unified general counsel David Holmquist has said that the investigation concerns the organization itself, not the schools.

The organization oversees seven school in California, and an additional four in Louisiana.
