Tracy Unified Board Member Abruptly Resigns
After the resignation of an additional school board member this week, the Tracy Unified School District must now fill two seats.
Earlier this month, school board member Juana Dement became council woman Juana Dement when she was appointed to the Tracy city council to fill a vacancy.
At the school board meeting last week, as trustees dealt with that vacancy, fellow school board member Kelly Lewis announced his resignation, creating a second vacancy for the board. Lewis cited a busy work schedule as the reason for his resignation.
Rather than spend an estimated $380,000 for a special election, the board voted unanimously to hold a special meeting instead to appoint replacements.
The interviews will take place Jan. 31 for two new school board members who will serve until the seats are up for election again in November 2018.
The deadline to submit an application is Jan. 25 at 5 p.m. and Lewis’ resignation takes effect Feb. 14.
