Northern Humboldt Union Names New Superintendent

The Northern Humboldt Union High School District Board of Trustees has chosen Roger Macdonald to be the new chief of schools.

Macdonald has been Principal of McKinleyville High School since 2012. He currently serves locally and regionally for the Association of California School Administrators and is an active member of the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development and Mad River Rotary.

The position became vacant when Dr. Chris Hartley was appointed to the role Humboldt County Superintendent in February of this year.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity and look forward to collaborating with the staff, parents, and community members of Northern Humboldt,” said Macdonald.

The NHUHSD Board of Trustees conducted a thorough search of candidates, and after sifting through applications for 17 individuals, and getting input from staff and community members in the paper screening process, ultimately the board decided Macdonald was the best fit for the job.

“The Board would like to thank the numerous individuals throughout our district and communities who participated in the comprehensive process and provided valued input,” said Board President Colleen Toste. “We are excited to work with Roger in his new role.”
