Pleasanton Unified Appoints New Superintendent…Again

Pleasanton Unified has found its newest Superintendent yet again. Dr. David Haglund will take over as chief of schools on July 1 following a unanimous vote by the school board.

Dr. Haglund comes from Santa Ana Unified where he served as the Deputy Superintendent of Educational Services and Chief Academic Officer.

"I am honored to have been selected as PUSD's next superintendent," said Dr. Haglund. "Pleasanton schools are blessed with great teachers and support staff and a community of parents and students that reach for and achieve excellence in many ways. I look forward to meeting with the Pleasanton community to hear their thoughts and partner in the work that lies ahead."

With a 29-year career an education, Dr. Haglund’s job titles have run the gamut from teacher to principal to assistant superintendent.

“The Board of Trustees is thrilled to appoint Dr. David Haglund as our next Superintendent” said Board President Joan Laursen. “We are confident that Dr. Haglund will help drive the continued success of our schools, students and community.”

The appointment comes a year after the board previously hired Rick Rubino, who was fired in January by the board just six months after he began his role. Sexual harassment allegations were brought up against him leading the board to take action,

Dr. Haglund’s annual salary will be $267,950, about $10,000 more than the $256,000 that was offered to Rubino last year.
