Banning Board Member Resigns Amid Allegations She Was Never a Vietnam Nurse
A Banning Unified school board member will resign after claims arose that she lied about serving as a nurse during the Vietnam War.
In a Facebook post and in subsequent interviews, school board member Jan Spann has said she worked as a medivac nurse during two tours in Vietnam.
The allegations began from a blog run by military combat veterans who say that Spann was actually enrolled at Cal State Long Beach at the time and that the National Personnel Records Center has no information about her.
In response, Spann has chosen to resign, but has made no admission of guilt. She has been a board member since being appointed in 2013. Her Area 5 seat is up for election this November.
