Get to Know the New Fresno Unified Superintendent

The Fresno Unified school board appointed Robert G. Nelson as Superintendent of the state’s fourth largest school district.

Nelson had been serving as Interim Superintendent since February after the board voted to terminate then long-time superintendent Michael Hanson.

Superintendent Nelson has worked 23 years for the district serving in various roles including teacher, vice principal, principal, human resources administrator and chief of staff, making him the first internal employee to serve as superintendent in nearly 30 years.

The Fresno Bee has listed some other fun facts about Superintendent Nelson, including that he’s a foster dad, and that he loves playing football.
