LAUSD Superintendent on Leave; Temporary Replacement Appointed

The chief of the state’s largest school district has temporarily resigned her post to deal with a medical emergency.

Los Angeles Unified Superintendent Michelle King sent an email announcing the appointment of Associate Superintendent Vivian Ekchian to the role until King’s return.

The details of King’s medical emergency are unclear, but some are speculating she had a recent surgery as a result of an injury during a family vacation.

The Superintendent has not attended a board meeting since September 12, and her last work day was September 15, according to district officials.

We wish the Superintendent the best during her recovery.
