Bakersfield School District Posted 1,000 Employee Social Security Numbers

Employees at Bakersfield City School District were dealt an unpleasant surprise when their social security numbers were accidentally published online for three hours.

District officials said they immediately pulled the information from the website when they were alerted to the breach. The misstep possibly affected an estimated 1,250 people.

Some certificated employees and substitutes were affected by the flub. The sensitive information had accidentally been attached to the board agenda packets.

A statement from the district said that all affected employees were notified the Monday after the event took place. Additionally, according to Bakersfield.com, the district is also offering to pay for credit monitoring for any of the employees affected by the breach.
