El Monte Elects Two Newcomers to School Board

Florencio Briones successfully squeezed out a close victory over eight year incumbent Esthela Torres de Siegrist to win a seat on the El Monte Union High School Board.

Briones sneaked in with 93 votes.

David Diaz, a former director at a nonprofit public health organization, won a seat on the board more handily. Both Diaz and Briones where endorsed by sitting school board member Maria Morgan.

The other incumbent in the race, Ricardo Padilla, was able to retain his seat.
