Bonita Unified Superintendent Placed on Leave…Again

The Bonita Unified School Board last week voted unanimously to place Superintendent Christina Goennier on administrative leave. There was no word from the board on how long Goennier’s leave will last nor did they give an official reason for doing so.

She is the second superintendent to be placed on leave in less than two years. Previously Kurt Madden, whom she replaced, was put on leave in March 2016 before resigning a month later.

If Goennier vacates the seat, she will be the third administrator Bonita Unified will have to part ways with in the past three years.

Celebrated as the second woman to lead BUSD, Goennier triumphed over her 28 other competitors and was appointed the position in July 2016. She signed a four-year contract and was expected to make $232,000 annually.

Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources Carl Coles was named acting superintendent.
