Alvord Unified Names New Superintendent

The Alvord Unified Board of Education unanimously selected Allan J. Mucerino, Ed.D. as the new Superintendent.

Dr. Mucerino currently serves as Superintendent for Duarte Unified.

He is scheduled to begin serving in his new role on June 15. Rich Thome and Marc Ecker are currently serving as interim superintendents and will be until Mucerino begins.

The board ousted previous Superintendent Sid Salazar in December 2017, and appointed Lou Oberneyer as interim superintendent shortly after. Her contract ended a few weeks ago and Thome and Ecker have been serving as interim superintendents since.

“Dr. Mucerino’s knowledge of innovative strategies, his deep knowledge of what our students need, outstanding leadership and teaching practices and local experience and credentials are a great match for our Alvord Unified community," said Board President Julie Moreno.

In Duarte, Mucerino increased graduation rates, institutionalized research-based student support programs including PBIS, MTSS, and AVID, and implemented a variety of college and career pathways and Early College programs.

Mucerino said he looks forward to working collaboratively as a member of the District’s Governance team and with the students, staff, and education community of Alvord Unified.
