Albany Unified Settles for $400,000 in Racist Instagram Incident; Parents Upset

Parents at Albany High School are angry over a lawsuit between Albany Unified School District and the families of students who were suspended for putting racially charged images on Instagram.

The students who posted the racist images are receiving more than $400,000 in damages, citing their freedom of speech was violated. Their attorney argues that the school should not have disciplined them for posting hateful images outside of school on a private account.

The parents, of those targeted, are furious over the settlement, and issued an open letter asking for the students that were targeted by the Instagram posts receive compensation as well.
