Modesto School Board Member Resigns Over Choice for New Superintendent

Modesto City Schools has announced Sara Noguchi, Ed.D., as the finalist for Superintendent.

Noguchi is currently the Associate Superintendent of Innovations, Research and Design for the Twin Rivers Unified School District.

“During my first 100 days, I will focus on Looking, Listening and Learning as much as I can about Modesto City Schools and the community at large,” Dr. Noguchi said. I look forward to working with Modesto City Schools’ students, staff, and community as we strive to provide a high level of instruction where each child can learn and achieve his or her fullest potential.”

However, her appointment was met with conflict. Trustee Steven Grenbeaux resigned this week because he wanted an in-house candidate to take the spot. Grenbeaux has served on the board since 2007 and previously from 1979-1991.

Trustees anticipate ratification of the appointment will occur on June 4, 2018, at a regularly scheduled board meeting, pending a validation visit and final contract negotiations.

Dr. Noguchi is a native of the Sacramento Valley and currently lives in Elk Grove, California.
