Redlands Unified HR Director Accused of Tampering Evidence in Sexual Abuse Investigation

A human resources director at Redlands Unified is accused of trying to destroy evidence in a sexual abuse investigation involving a teacher and student.

The scandal involving teacher Laura Whitehurst unfolded in 2013. And now, the details in that case have been revealed in almost 1,900 pages and more than 11 hours of interviews revealing years of sexual misconduct against her students.

What is even more shocking is the way the crimes were allegedly covered up by staff of the district.

Sabine Robertson-Phillips, assistant superintendent of human resources for Redlands Unified, has been accused of deleting evidence, advising staff not to cooperate with law enforcement, among other things.

Although she’s denied such actions, the police reports differs with her version of events.

The accusations against Whitehurst, prompted more students to allege abuse by other teachers, including instructor Kevin Patrick Kirkland, who plead guilty last year to having molested multiple female students.
