LADCFS Recognizes Foster Grads
170 Los Angeles County foster kids have graduated from high school and are headed to college. Their accomplishment was commemorated at a graduation ceremony organized by the Department of Children and Family Services last month.
Los Angeles County has the largest foster youth population in the country. 3,600 foster kids were enrolled in the Los Angeles Unified School District during the 2018-19 school year. Academic services are overseen by the county’s Office of Education.
The 170 students who were just honored are going on to attend four-year universities or community colleges. KPCC covered the ceremony and spoke with some of the grads.
