Hacienda La Puente Unified is on the lookout for a new superintendent.

The San Gabriel Valley Tribune reports that Hacienda La Puente Unified Superintendent Cynthia Parulan-Colfer will retire in January, capping six years as superintendent and two decades with the district. She told the Tribune that she wishes to spend more time with her family.

Parulan-Colfer and several members of the school board are embroiled in a controversy over the planned expansion of Wedgeworth Elementary School, which will come at the expense of the baseball fields. It has prompted a recall effort against the superintendent.

Parulan-Colfer dismissed the effort as a factor.

“When you have 6 1/2 years of peace, there’s always something that’s going to come up. It’s been several years people have been talking about this school, and I believer there’s a way for everyone to work it out.”
