Encinitas Students Raise Money for Custodian Who Lost His Foot

Park Dale Lane Elementary School custodian Guil Aguilar has been living the stuff of nightmares. Aguilar was recently taking out the trash at work when he felt something on his foot. It turned out the be the bite of a venomous spider, which ultimately caused him to have his foot amputated.

Now, students from the Encinitas school are rallying behind him. A fourth-grader named Melissa Scharbarth started a GoFundMe page for Aguilar. It had already raised $17,683 as of Tuesday morning.

By all accounts, Aguilar is loved by his students. He is also “the primary provider for his family and they depend on him,” according the the fundraising page.
