CDE Names New Director of School Fiscal Services

California State State Superintendent Tony Thurmond has announced the hiring of a new director for the School Fiscal Services Division. Elizabeth Dearstyne will replace Caryn Moore, who retired last year.

Dearstyne is an accomplished professional with the CDE. She has worked for its School Fiscal Services Division for 14 years, most recently as Associate Director. She holds a master’s degree in public administration from the University of Southern California.

“Elizabeth brings with her a wealth of knowledge about the state’s school funding systems after almost 20 years in education finance,” said Thurmond. “Her leadership and management skills will help the state provide crucial support to our schools so that they can provide a high-quality education to all students.”

The CDE’s School Fiscal Services Division oversees funding apportionment for local educational agencies (LEAs). It provides LEAs with guidance on best fiscal practices, solvency, audits and fiscal reports.
