Culver City Middle School Teacher Missing
A 33-year-old middle school teacher has been missing for more than a week. Now, L.A. County authorities and officials with the Culver City School District where she teaches are pleading for her safe return.
Brianna Kaye Capillo was last seen at her home in Rancho Palos Verdes at around 1 a.m. on Jan. 12. She suffers from schizophrenia and is not taking her medication, L.A. County Sheriff’s officials said.
Capillo is a beloved language and arts teacher at Culver City Middle School where she teaches the sixth grade. She is 4’9’’ and 130 lbs. with blonde hair and hazel eyes.
Culver City Unified Superintendent Leslie Lockhart issued the following statement on Saturday:
Dear Culver City Middle School Community,
This week we have become deeply concerned about one of our teachers, Ms. Brianna Capillo, who has been missing since January 12. While her family works with authorities to locate her, we know that you will join us in sending our sincere thoughts for a safe and quick return to her family. Due to the ongoing nature of the search, there are few details that can be shared and we ask that you respect the privacy of Ms. Capillo’s family during this difficult time.
We will continue to work with Principal Villafranca and the Language Arts team to make sure Ms. Capillo’s classes are covered and that instruction continues as planned. In the case that your child has heard the news and is struggling, CCMS counselors will be available to offer support for our CCMS students.
If and when we find out more details, we will share as appropriate. For now, we send our support and prayers to Ms. Capillo’s family as they wait for her return.
Anyone with information should contact L.A. County Sheriff’s officials at 323-890-5500 or report an anonymous tip to L.A. Crime Stoppers via 800-222-8477 or lacrimestoppers.org.
