California Schools to Remain Closed for the School Year

On Wednesday, Governor Gavin Newsom and State Superintendent Tony Thurmond confirmed what many parents and education officials had suspected. Public schools will not be reopening for the rest of the school year.

Thurmond had acknowledged as much in a letter to county officials Tuesday, according to The San Francisco Chronicle. In that letter, and again at Wednesday's press conference, he made clear that distance learning will continue.

The governor has announced that Google will be partnering with California to increase distance learning. It will provide 100,000 points of access to internet and broadband capacity, three months of free broadband, and thousands of complimentary chromebooks for students.
