LACOE Releases Strict Guidelines for Reopening
Education leaders from the state’s most populous county have developed a framework for reopening classrooms in the fall — and the details are stunning.
The guidance was published Wednesday by the L.A. County Office of Education. There are 80 school districts and more than 2 million students in the county. Among other things, the framework calls for:
- Staggered school schedules
- Sixteen children per classroom
- Face mask wearing at all times
- Lunches at classroom desks
- One-direction hallways
- Some classes outdoors
“Our main priority is health and safety,” said Debra Duardo, the superintendent for the L.A. County Office of Education (Los Angeles Times). “Unfortunately some of the things that children could enjoy in the past, they’re not going to be able to do that.”
The state has not yet released its own framework for reopening. That is expected next month.
