Tulare Ends Use of Redskins Mascot

Tulare Joint Union High School District has decided to end its efforts to keep using the racial slur for the name of its sports teams.

Previously, the district had tried to stop the passage of AB 30, a bill signed in October that outlawed the use of the term as a mascot.

In response to the bill, Adidas was offering to help fund schools as they search for a more politically correct character, but the district rejected the offer so as to avoid any outside influence in determining the new mascot.

The district is setting up a committee and searching for members to help find a new team name for Tulare High School that is befitting of the community.
