LAUSD Says Fall Semester Will Begin Aug. 18

Los Angeles Unified Superintendent Austin Buetner said the Fall 2020-2021 semester will begin on August 18. Whether that means students will be returning to class is up in the air.

”We've made no decisions about the opening of school facilities by that date and will not until the science and health authorities tell us it is safe and appropriate to do so," Beutner said Monday.

“As soon as the scientists tell us how, we'll figure out the when.”

LAUSD officials have been working with experts in epidemiology to determine best practices for reopening, testing, and other ways to keep students and faculty safe. The L.A. County Office of Education has also set up a special task force on reopening plans and guidelines.
