SAT Essays, Subject Tests Will Become a Thing of the Past
The organization that administers the SAT exam will eliminate the optional essay portion and subject tests beginning this summer. The College Board announced the changes Tuesday.
“The pandemic accelerated a process already underway at the College Board to simplify our work and reduce demands on students,” the organization said.
Two-thirds of colleges have eliminated standardized testing requirements either permanently or temporarily. In addition to the challenges the pandemic poses for SAT preparation, there are long-standing questions about racial equity.
The College Board also said it continues to work on digitizing the SAT exam.
