On School Reopenings, CA Trails 47 States
When it comes to school reopenings, California is moving at a slower pace than the vast majority of the nation. Only Washington, Oregon, and Maryland are moving slower. That’s according to a new analysis of school closures from EdSource, based on data from the U.S. Department of Education.
Even as case rates, hospitalizations, and death rates fall, about 82% of the state's elementary schools are still not fully reopened. In Washington, that figure is 91%. In Oregon and Maryland, it’s 92%.
Some states like Texas don’t have enough data to adequately compare.
