Fresno Unified will increase class time, school days to address learning loss
The Fresno Unified School District will add three class days to the 2021-2022 school year and an extra 30 minutes per class to make up for learning loss sustained during the pandemic.
School leaders unveiled details for the fall semester at a press conference Friday. They said classes would start Thursday, Aug 12 — two days earlier than usual.
In addition to the expanded calendar and extra 30 minutes per day, FUSD will add more teachers in subjects like language arts and math. After-school programs will also be expanded.
Physical and mental health are receiving new priority as well. Each elementary school will have a social emotional support worker on site. And for the first time, every campus will have a nurse or health professional present every day.
