COVID Cases and Hospitalizations Declining Among Children
California continues to be the bearer of good COVID news. The Golden State now has the lowest test positivity rate per 100,000 people among all 50 U.S. states. What’s more, cases among children are also declining since their August peak.
The decline in pediatric cases followed a decline in adult infections. Over the past eight weeks, the state reported a daily average of 8,172 new cases. Californnia recently became the only state without a “high” transmission rate, as defined by the CDC.
Children still make up an increasing share of infections and their cases are declining more slowly than adults’. In July, children under 18 accounted for approximately 15% of all state cases. That percentage climbed to 26% this month.
Eager for more progress, some school districts are bolstering their protective measures, the Santa Cruz Sentinel reports. Read more about some of the new mitigation measures being implemented here.
