Moreno Valley Unified Fires Superintendent Following $27 Million Settlement
Moreno Valley Unified Superintendent Dr. Martinrex Kedziora was terminated Tuesday by the board of education. Kedziora’s firing follows a $27 million legal settlement with the family of Diego Stolz, who was killed in a bullying incident at Landmark Middle School in 2019. Stolz’s family claims he was repeatedly bullied by a group of students at school. Despite complaints to school staff, the school allowed the harassers to come back onto campus, ultimately leading to the deadly confrontation.
MVUSD did not say whether Kedziora’s termination was related to the settlement. He has led the school district since 2017.
Some parents believe Kedziora is being used as a scapegoat. KTLA reports that supporters of the superintendent have been circulating recall petitions for board members who voted to fire him.
Other parents, however, say they support Kedziora’s ouster. Stolz was not the only MVUSD student who dealt with bullying. A number of parents felt the district allowed their children to be harassed with impunity.
