California School Board Member Threatened to ‘Execute’ Children for God
The Belleview Elementary School District in Tuolumne County, California has obtained a temporary restraining order against a school board member who allegedly threatened to kill children in service to God.
In court documents, school administrators detailed 93 pages of emails sent by Trustee Jason Vassar, 50, of Sonora. The screeds were described by district officials as “manifestos” and were titled “Homework” by Vassar. They include anti-government sentiment, racist language, and conspiracy theories related to communism, socialism and COVID-19.
According to district officials, Vassar said he believed he was “the messiah." Most disturbingly, Vassar said he’d “read in Revelations that I was going to be executioner for God and kill your children.”
The Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed it detained Vassar for a mental health evaluation. The school board is working to remove him from the dais.
Vassar has been ordered to stay 1,000 feet away from the school, its employees and students, and the board of trustees. After the restraining order was issued, Vassar reportedly left a threatening voicemail for a school administrator.
The Belleview Elementary School District is comprised of a single campus that serves grades K-8. Vassar was appointed to a vacant board seat in 2015 and won election to the seat a year later. He was re-elected in 2022.
